An extension and enrichment program for Tasmanian students in Years 5 and 6.
Hosted by
Doug Grubert Education
Venue: Carnacoo Camp
Paper Beach Road, Swan Point
Why a Critical Thinking Camp?
The Australian Curriculum identifies Critical and Creative Thinking as one of seven General Capabilities that schools should address through the content of the learning areas (subjects).
However, in a cultural climate characterised by post-truth politics, fake news and where the “wisdom of the crowd” is rapidly replacing expertise, there has never been a more important time to give priority to the development of Critical Thinking Skills.
Year 5 or 6 children can enrol in an immersive, four-day experience to:
- Interact with highly capable students
- Learn various Critical Thinking Models
- Apply models to real-world scenarios
- Detect bias and misinformation
- Use evidence and reason to construct meaning
Who should attend?
The Critical Thinking Camp is for:
- Gifted, talented, highly-capable and/or high-achieving students
- Students who always ask questions
- Children with a strong sense of social justice, unusual depth of emotions and intensity
- Students who are “bored” at school and seek academic challenge
- “Deep thinkers”
