Philosophy Camp 2018

The Thinking Our Way To A Better World Philosophy Camp is a four day experience being held between Sunday 8th to Wednesday 11th July 2018 (Week 1 of the school holidays). It is a residential programme being offered by Launceston Church Grammar School teachers Mr Doug Grubert and Dr Nick Clements. This is the second time the Camp has been held after a successful pilot in July 2017.

Held at the Mount Cameron Field Study Centre in northeast Tasmania, the programme has two main components:
  1.  Future problem-solving, emphasising neither pessimism or optimism but rather ingenuity, action and empowerment.
  2. Philosophising about future scenarios what truly matters in life, and how best to promote those things in their vision for the future.
This programme is aimed at gifted, talented and highly capable students in Year 6 from around Tasmania. Exceptional Year 5 students would also be considered.

Participation is by invitation and is capped at 24 enrolments. Prospective candidates need to be nominated by schools or, if nominated by parents, the student’s suitability for the programme needs to be verified by the student’s school. An Expression of Interest can be submitted using this link:

The programme cost is $300 for four days/three nights. This is inclusive of all food, accommodation and transport (to and from Launceston Church Grammar School – Mowbray Campus). The programme cost can be paid by the school, paid by the parent or a combination of the two.
